White Reeds IV - on winter lake is one of a series of paintings that I did following a visit to Fowlmere bird reserve in Cambridgeshire. On that day the white reeds were stunning against the backdrop of a perfectly blue sky. This piece follows my thoughts around how the colour pallette might change in a cold season. The path follows a crystal clear stream where in summer we saw crayfish. Now the sun, hovering over leafless trees, is translucent and barely visible. The colour palette is much cooler and the piece is been formed using a mix of mono print and textured mark making. The mesh sun is suspended, creating a sense of transience in time as it disappears.
