White Reeds III - channels is one of a series of paintings that I did following a visit to Fowlmere bird reserve in Cambridgeshire. On that day the white reeds were stunning against the backdrop of a perfectly blue sky. From the bird hide the view showed the intricate landscape of water channels, some hidden by the reeds and other vegetation - a perfect habitat for the wildlife. A combination of pigment wash, emulsion layering and textured mark making make the structural forms of the landscape, whilst the sun reflecting the blue water becomes a liquid pool itself.
